On Saturday, September 14, boxing fans will witness a major clash as Mexico’s Canelo Álvarez puts his WBA, WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine super middleweight titles on the line against Puerto Rico’s undefeated knockout specialist Edgar Berlanga. The fight, taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV and Prime Video.

Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs), the reigning superstar of boxing, remains a dominant force at 34 years old. The Guadalajara native is a four-weight world champion and has been a prominent figure in pound-for-pound rankings for over a decade. His goal on Saturday is to defend his titles against Berlanga during Mexico’s significant Independence Day weekend.

“It’s an honor to fight on this date. Mexican Independence Day (September 16) is incredibly important to us. It’s very special, and I’m very proud to fight for the Mexican people,” Canelo stated during the final press conference.

Canelo also expressed his gratitude to his supporters: “The fans mean everything to me. I appreciate their unwavering support throughout my career.”

Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs), known as “The Chosen One,” is making his debut in a world title bout. The 27-year-old has gained attention by knocking out his first 16 opponents in the opening round. In his last fight, Berlanga secured a sixth-round knockout against Padraig McCrory.

“I feel like Canelo is overlooking me and doesn’t respect me,” Berlanga declared. “He’s standing in the way of my dreams. I’m The Chosen One, and I’m ready to become the face of boxing. I plan to knock him out.”

Berlanga emphasized his progress, saying, “People don’t understand that I’m continually improving. This is my chance to prove that I belong among the best in the sport. Fighting a legend like Canelo will eliminate any doubts. It’s time for new blood to take over the 168-pound division.”

The Sporting News will offer live updates and round-by-round scoring for the main event.
